Talk by Jules Miller (MNIMH)
1st February 1997
Jules gave us a very professional and enlightened talk on herbalism. To obtain her qualifications, Jules studied full-time for 4 years with the usual medical training and supervision in clinics. Treating illness with herbalism looks at the bodys balance and uses over 100 herbs with active constituents with at least 7 herbs in a prescription. She has treated over 50 patients diagnosed with M.E. and has found all have a poor immune response. Nutrition forms part of the treatment too as candida is part of M.E. pathology. The herbs found useful for M.E. are:-
Echinacea - for chronic viral or bacterial infections; also effective against Candida
Astragulus - an adaptogen, Chinese immunostimulant & tonic
Siberian Ginseng - generally very useful
Dandelion Root - good for stimulating bile to flush out the liver - no toxic effects so you can take it for a long time
Berberis - anti-candida herb, works against toxic effects of pollution
Rosemary - effective for increasing blood flow to brain, antibacterial, diurectic and calming tonic for nervous system
Lavender - effective for migraine headaches & digestive problems
Cleavers - cleanser of lymphatics; detoxification effect - also an adaptogen
Poke Root - works on lymphatics, combines well with other candida herbs
(An adaptogen works on the hypothalamus & pituitary, conserves the adrenal glands and improves the ability to cope with stress)
Jules has found that younger people respond quicker to her treatment and one of our younger members has made some improvement since seeing Jules in February. Jules is based at Newry Park; her telephone number is 01244 - 371114. |
