Raymond Perrin’s talk

Sunday, April 28th 1996

Osteopathy is not just for treating backs but can also be one answer for physically treating M.E. according to Ray. He advocates that all M.E. patients can be helped and if the illness is diagnosed early enough, he believes he can help significantly. He ascertains the M.E. is caused by irritation of the sympathetic nerves in the thoracic region and above and that gentle manipulation of that area as well as cranial osteopathy can relieve that irritation. Because of the success Ray is having with M.E., he spends most of his time treating M.E. patients.

He hopes to publish his research results in November. These results will show not only the rate of success in improving symptoms in M.E. with the group of patients he has used as his sample but perhaps more significantly, he hopes to have a diagnostic test for M.E. proved by then as well. Exciting news indeed.

Raymond Perrin can be telephoned on 061-773-0123 if you decide you’d like treatment. He is based in Prestwich, Manchester.

Sunday 14th September.

Raymond Perrin told us of the recent developments in his exciting research into the effectiveness of osteopathy and M.E.. Crucially it has now been established that there is a lymphatic drainage system from the brain to the spine (spinal roots) and to a plate behind the nose. Build up of toxins in the brain and overload of the sympathetic nervous system lead to blockage.

Raymond believes his research gives a very clear understanding of why M.E. is a mechanical problem which benefits from physical; treatment. The study he has undertaken with Action for M.E. looks at the health of M.E./ patients who have had osteopathy and shows a very positive outcome compared with a control group who had no physical treatment. These results will be published next year.

About 250 osteopaths nationally are now using Raymond’s methods. For advice on treatment and a local practitioner call 0161 773 0123. Ray now advises M.E. patients to practice self massage. He demonstrated a helpful way to help stimulate the nasal plate; press at the top of the bridge of the nose with both index fingers, one each side. You may notice an immediate improvement in breathing. Practice seven minutes a day for ten days, then one minute daily. This will clear the blockage and help with the sinus problems experienced by so many of us.
